Promoting farmer entrepreneurship
In 2007, six villages formed cashew producer associations, and these six have come together in a non-profit company, Masasi High Quality Farmers' Products.
Any profit the company makes is channeled back to the farmers or used for projects that benefit the whole community.
The mission of the organization is to increase the income and thereby improve the livelihood of its members, smallholder cashew farmers.
By 2010, the company aims to represent 3000 cashew farmers and be competitive in providing services to members, including marketing of products, supply of inputs, and extension services.
